Tales of the Lightkeepers

I am working on a new book, My House Is A Lighthouse, to be released June, 2019. It presents stories about the exciting and demanding work of the lightkeepers who still work and live on light stations in Canada and the United States. Ghost stories, tales of rescue amid powerful storms and the daily work of the lightkeeper offer insight into what it’s like to live on the edge, where the land meets the sea.

New release May 2018

Twelve change makers around the world encourage you to start small and make a big difference! My latest book, Everyone Can Be A Changemaker, offers inspiring examples of social entrepreneurs who have helped to light villages, save the rainforests, eliminate plastic and create blueprints for success.

Work in Progress

With a travel grant from the  Canada Council for the Arts, I was recently able to travel down south to New Orleans to complete my research on early jazz. Such a valuable experience researching the Hogan Jazz Archives and a big thanks to all the curators I spoke to about my project, a children’s novel set in 1906 in the pre-jazz era. Many thanks to Canada Council for this wonderful opportunity.

Reporter in Disguise shortlisted

Reporter in Disguise: The Intrepid Vic Steinberg is shortlisted for the Hackmatack Children’s Choice awards and has been recognized by the American Library Association for excellence in feminist literature for children. One of only two Canadian books on the list, Vic Steinberg would be thrilled that she continues to inspire girls and young women, over a century later!

There and back again!

Just returned from the St. Lawrence, Newfoundland book launch of Life Lines: The Lanier Phillips Story. It’s all true about Newfoundland hospitality, the best you will ever experience! From the reception to the boil up, tours and launch complete with live entertainment, it was an adventure I will never forget. If you haven’t driven down the Burin to St. Lawrence and Lawn, you should go. Stunning scenery, fascinating history,  and warm, welcoming people will greet you. Thanks to the Historical Advisory Committee, the Three L Association and the schools of Lawn and St. Lawrence for delivering the best launch, ever!
